My Selah Privacy Policy
Effective date:
My Selah is a local-first Scripture, reflection, journaling, and personalization application published by Selah Works.
For questions about this privacy policy, feedback, or support, contact:
Information stored on your device
My Selah stores personal application data locally on your Windows device. This may include:
- Profile information you choose to enter
- Recent Scripture searches
- Notes and optional dates or reminders
- Journal entries
- Scripture references
- Personal Reflections associated with YouVersion Highlights
- Local metadata used to associate Reflections with Highlights
- Workspace layouts and customization settings
- Themes and visual preferences
- Imported images
- Saved media links
- Locally created backup files
This information is stored within the current Windows user's application storage.
My Selah does not operate a Selah Works cloud account database for this information.
My Selah does not include application telemetry, advertising, remote analytics, or a Selah Works cloud synchronization service.
When you choose to connect a YouVersion account, supported Highlight information may be exchanged with YouVersion as part of the account-connected features you choose to use.
Scripture and YouVersion
My Selah uses the YouVersion Platform API to provide Scripture-related functionality. When you search for or open Scripture, information needed to perform that request may be sent to YouVersion, including:
- Search terms
- Scripture references
- Translation or Bible version identifiers
- Application authentication information
Scripture text and attribution are retrieved from YouVersion rather than generated by My Selah or stored as a local Scripture database.
Connected YouVersion accounts
If you choose to connect a YouVersion account, My Selah may access supported account features such as Highlights.
Bible Sync opens YouVersion authentication in your default browser. YouVersion may use its own browser cookies and account information according to its policies. When authentication is complete, you return to My Selah through a local callback on your device.
My Selah may read supported YouVersion Highlight information associated with your account. This may include:
- Scripture references
- Bible translation or version identifiers
- Highlight colors
My Selah may also allow you to create, recolor, or remove supported Highlights from within the application. When you perform one of these actions, the necessary Highlight information is sent to YouVersion so that the change can be reflected in your connected YouVersion account.
A Highlight created or changed through My Selah is therefore account-connected YouVersion data, rather than a separate Selah Works cloud copy.
Highlight synchronization state
My Selah may maintain operational synchronization state locally for connected Highlights, including cached Highlight references, Bible version identifiers, Highlight colors, provider identifiers, and pending Highlight changes awaiting synchronization.
This state is tied to the connected YouVersion session and is separate from normal personal content. It is not included in .selahpack backups as provider-authoritative Highlight data.
My Selah Reflections
My Selah allows you to associate a personal Reflection with a YouVersion Highlight.
These Reflections are My Selah content and are stored locally on your device.
Reflection text is not sent to YouVersion.
A change to or removal of a YouVersion Highlight does not transmit the associated My Selah Reflection to Selah Works.
Reflections may be included in local My Selah backup exports along with other personal application content.
My Selah does not request or import your YouVersion name, email address, or profile image.
YouVersion's own collection, use, storage, and processing of information are governed by YouVersion's privacy policies.
Authentication credentials
If YouVersion account connection is used, authentication credentials are kept separate from My Selah's normal personal content.
Persistent YouVersion connection credentials are protected locally using Windows user-level encryption. Temporary access credentials are kept separate from My Selah personal content and are not included in backup exports.
Authentication credentials are used only as necessary to maintain the optional YouVersion account connection and perform supported account actions.
YouTube, Spotify, and external links
My Selah may open or load external websites or services when you explicitly request them. Examples include:
- YouTube help and tutorial content
- Bible.com links
- YouTube or Spotify media selected by the user
Opening or loading those services may cause your browser or those providers to receive information normally associated with a web request, such as your IP address, browser information, cookies, or account status.
Those services are governed by their own privacy policies.
Email support
If you choose Email Selah Works, My Selah opens your configured email application using: [email protected]
My Selah does not automatically transmit your Notes, Journal entries, Reflections, profile information, Scripture history, workspace data, or other personal content when you contact support. If you send an email, Selah Works will receive only the information that you voluntarily include in that message.
Sharing and selling information
Selah Works does not sell My Selah user data.
My Selah does not transmit locally stored personal content to advertising networks, analytics services, or a Selah Works cloud database.
Information is transmitted to third-party services only when needed for a feature you choose to use.
Examples include retrieving Scripture from YouVersion, reading or modifying connected YouVersion Highlights, or opening user-selected external content.
Personal My Selah Reflections are not transmitted to YouVersion as part of Highlight synchronization.
Backups and exported data.
My Selah can create local backup files containing personal settings and user-created content. These backup files are controlled by you and are not automatically uploaded to Selah Works. Backup content may include items such as Notes, Journal entries, Reflections, layouts, settings, and imported images.
Personal notes, imported images, local application data, and exported backups are not independently encrypted by My Selah.
Their protection depends on your Windows account, device security, and how you store, copy, or share exported files.
YouVersion authentication credentials are not included in My Selah backup exports.
Your choices and control
You control the personal content stored in My Selah. You may:
- Edit or delete supported personal content within the application
- Reset supported application content
- Create, recolor, or remove supported YouVersion Highlights when your account is connected
- Disconnect an optional YouVersion account
- Export or delete your own backup files
- Remove exported files that you have saved outside My Selah
Uninstalling My Selah may remove application-managed local data stored with the app. Files that you created or exported outside My Selah's application storage, such as .selahpack backups saved elsewhere on your device, may remain after uninstalling and must be removed separately if you no longer want them.
Disconnecting your YouVersion account from My Selah does not necessarily delete Highlight information already stored in your YouVersion account.
YouVersion account data remains subject to the controls and policies provided by YouVersion.
Security
My Selah 1.2 is a desktop application. Its desktop interface communicates with a local application service through loopback networking on your device; that service listens only on the local computer. The application uses protections including:
- Local host and request validation
- Protected local authentication credential storage
- Controlled file uploads
- Validated backup and restore handling
- Separation between authentication credentials and normal personal application content
No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Changes to this policy
Selah Works may update this privacy policy as My Selah changes.
Material changes to the application's handling of personal information will be reflected in an updated version of this policy and its effective date.
